Ski Weekend! - January 9 -
11
|
|
This
upcoming "Back to ski Weekend" is the big kick
off to the new season. This is a weekend
especially designed for new and newer skiers and
will consist of membership registration, a
general advice and information clinic, on snow
instructional ski clinics, an introductory tour
and a social. The weekend is also a good
opportunity for past members to get in the swing
of things and improve their technique. The
club is fortunate in having a number of
qualified instructors who offer their services
for free.
On Friday evening, January 9th
from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Clarenville Inn we have
registration for adults and junior skiers.
At 8:00 we will have an information
session about the club and a meet and greet.
Following that, Harry O'Gay will be putting off
a waxing clinic. This clinic is quite useful for
all beginners, and even if you have skied for a
while but are not confident about what waxes you
should be using, this may help. We encourage you
to drop by and register on this evening if you
have not already done so.
As for the junior skiers it is
very important that they register by Friday,
January the 9th. As you can appreciate, there is
some organizing that we need to do for the
junior skiers in terms of dividing them into
groups etc. Therefore, we need to get the
numbers and some idea of the children's skiing
experience as soon as possible. We have already
met earlier in the year to plan the activities.
We intend to have activities for
the children on Saturday mornings starting at
11:00. The first session will be Saturday,
January the 10th. This session will allow a
little lesson and give the leaders a chance to
meet the children and the children can meet each
other. We also give some basic instructions
about equipment, technique etc. There may
also be an opportunity do a little sliding, have
a lunch and have a little campfire. So bring a
lunch and something you can roast on the fire if
you want.
On Saturday, January 10th at
10:30 a.m. there will be an instructional clinic
at the Nordic Meadow at the White Hills.
For more information contact June Mills at
466-7807.
There will also be a skating
clinic on Saturday at 10:30 led by Blaine
Pearce. Meet at the
Chalet.
On
Saturday. January 10th at 2:30 there will be a
tour. The scheduled route is a 3.5 km tour
around Harry's Loop. Everyone will meet at the
Lee Churchill Chalet. After the tour there will
be a Back to Ski Social at the Lee Churchill
Chalet with delicious soup for
everyone. In the event of bad weather or
poor conditions, the registration and
information session on Friday night will go
ahead as will the soup on Saturday. The
latest info will be given out Friday night at
the information session. On
Sunday, January 11th, at 2:00 there will be an
uphill and downhill clinic at the White Hills
Ski Resort. Meet at the Chalet. If you can make
it Friday night you should be able to get the
latest info. If you have already registered then
simply meet us at the scheduled
times.
